Treat Your Dad to Dinner and Dessert with Tiny Pies!

June 16, 2020

Father’s Day is great time to celebrate the father figure in your life. I’ll be celebrating from afar this year as my dad, Bill lives in CA and due to COVID-19 we won’t be able to be together. However I’m still going to make it special by sending him pies (of course)!

I have learned a lot from my dad, Bill over the years. He taught me how to ride a bike when I was four years old, how to change a tire on my car and check my oil when I was 16 — (before I was allowed to drive by myself), and he taught me how to use tools because he wanted me to be self sufficient.

But, a few of the things that I learned from my dad weren’t actually “taught” to me but modeled instead. He taught me to love food and take care in preparing it. He taught me to try new foods and explore different flavors. He taught me the importance of cooking and eating healthy food and sitting at the dinner table every night as a family to enjoy a meal together and talk about our day. Now, my dad still loves to create new recipes and dishes for me and my kids when we visit and what we’re eating is always equally important to him as what we’re doing.

I also inherited the entrepreneur bug from my dad. My dad owned and operated his own film company for a large part of my life and during that time I would hang out at his office and even worked for him when I was in high school. I saw first hand how hard it was to run your own business but I also saw the pride he had when he created a film from his own vision and saw it to fruition.

Lastly, I fell in love with running and exercise because of my dad. My dad is an avid runner and still runs almost every day at the age of 79. When I was young, we would walk and/ or run Town Lake and then go to Magnolia Cafe for pancakes… it was a Saturday tradition. To this day when we’re together, exercise is always a part of what we do. We’re hiking, running or taking long walks.

Happy Father’s Day to my dad, Bill and all the dads, mentors and teachers out there that impact our lives in a positive way… and if you want to celebrate with your dad, we’ve got a lot of great ideas!

xo,

Amanda
